October at Villa Mir

I was in Cleveland recently for a meeting at Case Western Reserve University , and it was great to be at the farm during my favorite season, fall. The new house is coming along - lots of internal finishing construction now. Paul's wood floors, which he made from lumber harvested from the farm, are just beautiful. He used mostly tulip poplar, which is a really interesting wood that you don't see very often - lots of contrast and grain to it. I just think it is really cool to have floors in your house where you cut the tree yourself, helped saw it into lumber and laid the floor. The other great feature is the new barn, which is also made from VMF harvested wood. Plan is to move into the new house before year end, and I think that's pretty much on track. Posted by Picasa
Nephew Jack, as you can see, is learning to play the fiddle from his mom. He doesn't exactly have the notes down, but he sure has a good sense of rhythm and its so cute to watch him tapping his foot while he plays along with mom. A favorite song is 'Buffalo Gals' - with lyrics adapted to various members of the Kovac family!

We had snow while I was in Chardon - almost 10 inches, the papers said, but it didn't seem like that much. But winter's coming on! Posted by Picasa
